(WEHT)-Shark Tank’s Judge Barbara Corcoran has recovered nearly $400,000 stolen in an email phishing scam.
The scammer tricked Corcoran’s bookkeeper into wiring a requested payment by using an email address similar to her assistant’s.
The bank used to wire the money froze the transfer before it was deposited into the scammer’s bank account in China.
114,000 people reported being a victim of that kind of scam last year. According to the FBI’s internet crime report, the losses totaled nearly 60 million dollars.
Phishing scammers send emails containing links that look like they are from a trustworthy source.
