(WEHT)- A new study conducted by Wallethub shows Indiana has the third biggest unemployment increase in the country amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The same study showed Kentucky has the 8th highest increase but Illinois ranked 44th.
The study looked at two metrics: the change in unemployment from this time in 2019 and now and from the beginning of 2020 and now. The study looked at all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia. According to the study, Indiana had the highest increase from this time last year with a nearly 7100 percent increase in unemployment claims.
The study showed Louisiana is experiencing the worst unemployment numbers in the country. Louisiana has the fifth highest increase from this time in 2019 and the highest increase since the beginning of 2020.
Oregon, meanwhile, had the lowest increase nationwide, the lowest increase since this time last year, and the second lowest increase since January.
