(WEHT)-There is a continuing long trend in the decline of tobacco sales. Fewer cigarettes have been bought in 2018 than in past years.
Cigarettes sales amounted to 217 billion in 2018. According to one report released this week by Federal trade Commission.
That continues a downward trend that started in 2000, when 414 billion cigarettes were sold. Tobacco manufactures are spending less on advertising.
Advertisers have spent 8.4 billion dollars on ads in 2018 compared to 8.6 billion in 2017.
These declines could possibly continue as the federal government raised the minimum age to buy tobacco from 18 to 21 years old.
