(WEHT)- The Trump administration told congressional lawmakers that Iran may retaliate against US forces following the airstrike that killed top Iranian general, Qassem Soleimani.
While authorities aren’t sure what form the retaliation might take or when it could happen, they say it could come in the form of attacks on US allies in the region or via sleeper cells in the US or elsewhere. Iran’s President said that retaliation for Soleimani’s death could last several years.
On Saturday, rockets were fired into Baghdad’s Green Zone, where the American embassy is and at an airfield north of the Iraqi capital. So far, no causalities from either strike have been reported.
