(CNN) – The US State Department has ordered all non-emergency personnel to leave Iraq and has issued a travel warning due to rising tensions between the US and Iran.

The US State Department is warning that American citizens in Iraq are at high-risk for violence and kidnapping due to numerous terrorist and insurgent groups growing in Iraq.

The state-run news agency in Iran has reported the country’s defense minister responded to the United States’ actions saying, “Iran has today reached the highest levels of defense and military power to rebuff all threats and the greed of the Great Devil, America.”

US officials claim Iran has carried out “sabotage” attacks on two Saudi tankers and a Norwegian ship.

Iran has repeatedly denied any involvement and the US has presented no evidence of it.
