WWII veteran receives high school diploma

National News

NEW YORK (CNN) – A 104-year-old World War II veteran finally got his high school diploma eight decades after he dropped out to help support his mother.

Louis Forte left school in the 1930s after his father died. He enlisted in the army air corps during WWII.

Then he came home to a family and successful business career.

His granddaughter talked about the thrill of finally getting that diploma.

“He built us and sacrificed everything for us. So seeing him get this achievement truly means a lot to him, after all these years, is incredible.”

Tuesday was declared “Louis Forte Day” in Westchester County, New York, where the family lives.
