(CNN) – The head of u-s U.S. Border Patrol admits she was a member of a controversial Facebook group for agents.
Posts joking about migrant deaths and derogatory comments about Latina lawmakers were made in that group.
During a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing Wednesday, Chief Carla Provost told lawmakers she went to authorities once she realized there was an investigation into the group.
“Not only did I self-report, I turned my entire Facebook account over to the office of professional responsibility and when I say that, I gave them my log in and my passwords so they had full access to my account and they were able to go in and look at all of my activity over the three years that I have been a member of Facebook.”
Provost denied knowing about the posts ahead of a pro-publica investigative report that first exposed the Facebook group.
