Virginia police officer killed after being dragged by fleeing vehicle during traffic stop

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WEHT) — A police officer in Virginia has died after being dragged by a fleeing vehicle.

The incident happened in Newport News, just before 7 local time Thursday night.

Police officials say the officer was conducting a traffic stop when the driver sped away, causing the officer to be dragged by the car.

The driver then reportedly crashed, and was taken into custody.

A news conference is expected to be held on sometime Friday morning.
