TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Indiana health officials announce set new guidelines for long-term care facilities as the outbreak continues to impact the most at risk.
Monday, it was announced that long-term care facilities in Indiana must designate staff to provide COVID-19 updates to both residents and their representatives.
The updates are required daily and must include the number of cases and deaths each facility has and the steps they have taken to limit the spread.
State officials say these numbers will be reported each Monday as the pandemic continues.
These new guidelines come as recent data shows 10% of cases and 32% of all Indiana COVID-19 related deaths has happened at these facilities.
“This has been a very collaborative process with a lot of thought and a lot of input and we recognize that it a new approach and that it’s going to take some time to implement but I do want to emphasize how important this is,” said Dr. Daniel Rusyniak, Chief Medical Officer for Indiana FSSA.
Rusyniak says there is not a separate breakdown for cases involving staff at long-term facilities, due to some staff working at multiple locations.
Rusyniak also says if a family or resident feels they are not being updated properly they may contact the state by e-mail for an investigation.
