MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) – A new playground in Madisonville will open this weekend.
The playground at the Dr. Festus Claybon Park in Madisonville is made mostly out of recycled products.
The new play area not only has kids pretty excited but the parents pretty happy too.
Instead of rough mulch, a softer-safer product is being used that city administrators say feels like you’re walking on marshmallows.
“This is recycled, shredded tires. The new playset over here is all 100% recycled materials. Basically, out of milk jugs, so that’s pretty impressive. The Hopkins Tourism restaurant tax gave us the money to purchase this which is $85,000. If we would have brought outside labor in to lay it, I would have cost another $80,000. We are going to lay it for another $10,000-15,000 using in house labor. We’re being efficient with the city’s money.”
Robert Janes says the new play area will be ready for kids to start enjoying the new park Saturday morning.
