SPENCER COUNTY, Ind. (WEHT) – Over a year after the Spencer County Animal Shelter closed down, a new shelter opened in its place Sunday.

“It Takes a Village No-kill Rescue” celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting, food, adoptable animals, and tours of the facility.

We’re told the turn out was great and many showed up with donations.

The previous shelter closed in October of 2018 after allegations that employees froze cats alive to euthanize them. No criminal charges were filed.

If you want to check out the new facility or adopt a pet, they are open from 12 to 5 Tuesday through Saturday, and from 12 to 7 on Wednesdays.

The shelter is located at 824 E. CR 800 North, Chrisney, Indiana.
