A Newburgh man charged in a baby’s death pleads not guilty on Thursday in court.

Thaddious Rice is charged with murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death. That’s after the 10-month-old infant suffered a fatal head injury back in April.

Auhorities said Rice is not the child’s father, but he is the boyfriend of the child’s mother.

Officers say Rice told the detective that he fell down stairs while holding the infant in a car seat. At the emergency room, authorities say the baby did not have a pulse and was not breathing.

Rice’s next court date is scheduled for October 30.
