Ohio River dredging underway near downtown Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Dredging operations are underway once again on the Ohio River.

Several vessels are setup south of downtown Evansville. They are removing sediment and debris from the navigation channel on the river.

The Army Corps of Engineers does this frequently to keep the channel clear for barges and other river traffic. Dredging also creates a temporary sandbar that boaters enjoy for a few weeks.
