OPD: Juvenile charged with reckless homicide, operating vehicle under the influence

On Thursday, Owensboro police charged a juvenile with reckless homicide, in connection with the death of 64-year-old Mary L. Sikes following a traffic crash.

On November 30, 2018, Sikes was involved in a crash at the intersection of E25th St. and Allen St.

Sikes was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with what authorities believed to be a non-life-threatening injury at the time.

The juvenile was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On December 19, 2018, police said they were contacted by the Vanderburgh County, Indiana Coroner’s Office. The coroner’s office told police that Sikes had passed away on December 12 due to injuries sustained during the crash.

As a result of the investigation, the juvenile was charged with reckless homicide and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
