The Owensboro Police Department is sending condolences to the family of 32-year-old Kenneth “Blake” Roberts, who passed away on Monday following an ATV crash Sunday.
Here’s OPD’s statement:
“In light of the recent tragic loss of Recruit, Kenneth ‘Blake’ Roberts, the Owensboro Police Department wishes to extend our sincere condolences to his wife, children, and family. Kenneth was well liked by his peers within the department and showed tremendous promise of becoming a fine police officer. He will be missed. “
Deputies say Roberts was driving a Polaris RAZR ATV-type vehicle in the 7100 block of Highway 144 just before 3:30 p.m. on Sunday when the crash happened.
Roberts was employed by the Owensboro Police Department and was in his sixth week of training to become a police officer.
A passenger, Lewis Varble, was taken to Owensboro Regional Health Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers escaped with no injuries. A fifth person, John Holley, suffered a minor laceration.
Authorities say none of the five people were wearing helmets and that they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
