OPD Raising Money with No-Shave November

November is just a day away and No-Shave November is a popular tradition for some. The Owensboro Police Department is taking an extra step this year and expanding No Shave November into December and January.

OPD used No-Shave November as a fundraiser last year and now the department is upping the ante.

Owensboro’s finest will be donating money for the priviledge of not shaving.

The money is going toward two local causes: Camp Cops and Operation Santa.

Camp Cops is a week-long crime prevention program for kids. Operation Santa provides food for the needy in December.

There are guidelines for the officers. They can’t surpass a one-inch beard and they must maintain a professional appearance.

Officer Hathaway says OPD is interested in doing similar fundraisers in the future.
