Owensboro City Officials Halt Marina Project

News
Owensboro city officials calling off plans for a new downtown marina for now.

It was supposed to be built on the Ohio River just west of the Owensboro Convention Center.

Mayor Ron Payne says they prefer to focus on other major projects like the new gateway commons commercial development and International Bluegrass Music Center.

“There are a lot of things going on in Owensboro,” said City Manager Bill Parrish. “There’s been tremendous investment in the past six to seven years. I think the commission is saying, ‘Let’s put a hold on this for now. We’ll reassess this in the future.'”

Officials add the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service approved a $1.5 million grant for the marina earlier this year, but that requires matching funds from the city.
