Part of Main Street in Mt. Vernon to close for renovation project

News

MT. VERNON, Ind. (WEHT) – As you start your weekend, there’s a big traffic alert to watch for next week.

The city of Mt. Vernon is renovating Main Street from Water Street to Sixth Street, which means detours for drivers.

Mt. Vernon Mayor Bill Curtis said he wants people to know what to expect come Monday morning.

Northbound Main Street will be closed, north of Highway 62.

Traffic will detour to Mill Street, then lower New Harmony Rd. and Grant Street before heading east back to Main Street.

Due to tight turns, semi-truck drivers are asked to use the William Keck Bypass to North I-69.

There’s no word on how long this detour will be in effect.
