The Port of Indiana in Mount Vernon had the highest quarterly shipments of any Ports of Indiana’s locations in more than 50 years during the first quarter of 2015.
This was the second consecutive quarter the port broke the record. The port says it’s due to significant increase in grain shipments.
Grain volumes were helped by last year’s record harvest. Fertilizer, steel, mineral and magnetite shipments also increased.
Coal shipments handled by Alliance Coal also make up a large part of the port’s shipments.
