Military leaders are asking serious questions about the rise of ISIS and whether Iraqi troops can stand on their own.
US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter made waves this weekend when he said Iraqi troops weren’t up to the fight against ISIS.
“The Iraqi forces just showed no will to fight. They were not outnumbered. In fact, they vastly outnumbered the opposing force. And yet, they failed to fight,” said Carter.
On Sunday, Senator John McCain said, “We need more troops on the ground in Iraq.”
However, the American public may be wary.
A CNN-ORC poll conducted last September showed Americans were against sending ground troops to fight ISIS whether in Syria or in Iraq.
