Resolution Passed to Rename Block after Civil Rights Activist

Dr. W.R. Brown, Sr. served as the pastor of New Hope Baptist in Evansville for more than 50 years. He was active during the Civil Rights Movement and even made the trip to Washington, D.C. for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Tonight at city council, a resolution was passed to rename the 600 block of Elliott St. to Dr. W.R. Brown Sr. Way. That road runs right in front New Hope Baptist.
