Scholarships honoring Hopkins County educator announced

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) – A Hopkins County community group starts a new scholarship in memory of a long-time educator.

The Community Improvement Foundation announced the Charles Gant Scholarship program Wednesday morning.

They’ll be awarded to four students at Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hopkins County Central High Schools for either vocational training or an education major in college.

The scholarship is named after Charles Gant — a former teacher, coach, and principal, who passed away earlier this year.

“It’s awesome because Charles was an educator. He always wanted to continue his education, and he also wanted kids to theirs as much as they can.”

Foundation officials say the total value of the scholarships will depend on the amount of money raised.
