Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky is preparing to announce that he and Senator Barbara Boxer of California have reached an agreement on a transportation bill.
McConnell was in Shepherdsville, Kentucky on Monday speaking to a business group.
“I said we were all sent here by our constituents to try and make a difference to all of our ideas. to try to move the country in whatever direction we think is appropriate, and open this place up and let people have their say,” McConnell said of his discussions with Boxer.
The authority for transportation programs expires on July 31 so the Senate is under pressure to act quickly.
McConnell says he and Boxer were in negotiations all weekend and are hoping to announce a bipartisan plan Tuesday.
