EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – St. Benedict Cathedral School in Evansville will be closed Friday due to a bat colony.

According to school officials, they had someone conduct maintenance work and a bat colony was found in the attic of one of the school buildings.

Students will complete an e-learning day on Friday, Sept. 20th.

The school will take the day to assess the situation and determine what steps should be taken next.

“The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff are paramount,” said Dr. Daryl Hagan, Diocese of Evansville superintendent of schools. “We apologize for this inconvenience, but we are exercising an abundance of caution in canceling in-school classes for Sept. 20 in order to give professionals a chance to assess the situation and determine next steps on safely eliminating the colony.”

We will continue to follow this story and update information once it becomes available.
