Study: Kentucky ranks 6th overall for most Fentanyl deaths in America

KENTUCKY (WEHT) – Kentucky ranks sixth for the most Fentanyl deaths in America, according to a new study.

Health Testing Centers released a study called American Epidemic: Where in America is Fentanyl Claiming the Most Lives.

The study, which analyzed data from the Centers for Disease Control and Drug Enforcement Agency through 2018, found that Fentanyl and its derivatives contributed to nearly half of all drug overdose deaths in 2018.

In Kentucky, Fentanyl deaths increased by 1,189% from 2013-2017, resulting in 13.15 deaths per 100,000 residents.

Indiana had 10.39 Fentanyl deaths in 2018, while Illinois had 8.12.

Nationally, there was a three percent decline in all drug overdoses in 2018.
