A suspect is now in custody after a Hopkinsville police officer was shot early Monday morning.

The Hopkinsville Police Department says Officer Jeremy Davidson was shot while chasing 28-year-old Keith Kuzyk.

The chase was the result of a theft investigation at a Walmart, in which a woman says a masked man with a gun stole her SUV from the parking lot.

Officer Davidson later spotted a vehicle matching the description of the SUV.

During the pursuit, police say Kuzyk shot Davidson twice.

The officer is said to be “recovering nicely” at a Nashville hospital.

Kuzyk was arrested later Monday morning, after police say he stole another vehicle from the Hopkinsville Waffle House.

He was taken into custody after another brief pursuit.

Kuzyk is facing a long list of charges, including Wanton Endangerment of a Police Officer, as well as robbery, gun and theft charges.

Police say several others have been arrested in this case as well.

They face charges of robbery and receiving stolen property.
