Suspect Surrenders after Standoff in Owensboro

Owensboro Police say the suspect surrendered just after 8:30 p.m. He is now in custody.

Police have identified the suspect as 37-year-old Odis Barrett.
Outside of the warrant for cocaine trafficking, police did not elaborate on his possible charges.
Police did say Barrett called 911 on Wednesday morning to report a possible shooting. The details on that incident are unclear.

Owensboro Police say a person fired gun shots at officers while they were trying to serve a warrant.

The person fled on foot, according to police.

OPD says the shooting happened in the 1100 block of West Fourth St.

No officers were injured. Officers say they believe the person is in a house on the 1100 block of West Third St.

Officers are going to try to communicate via megaphone.

That street is being closed off while officers try to communicate.

Officer Michael Hathaway says the warrant officers were trying to serve was for a charge of trafficking cocaine, with a $50,000 bond.
