EVANSVILLE, Ind. –(WEHT)- The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra announced three winners Sunday for the Philharmonic’s 64th Annual Young Artist Competition held at the Victory Theatre in downtown Evansville. The Young Artist Competition is designed to promote, encourage, and nurture exceptional young talent.
The first two prizes were awarded to siblings Renée Murphy and Ethan Murphy of Bloomington, Indiana. Renée was awarded grand prize for her performance of the Gliere Harp Concerto. She received a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to perform with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra on the Young People’s Concerts in March of 2021. Ethan’s performance of the Boccherini Cello Concerto won him a $600 cash prize.
This was the only time in the competition’s history where two siblings took home the first and second prizes.
Third place prize went to cellist Brendan Stock of Evansville, Indiana. Brendan’s performance of the Cello Concerto in D minor by Édouard Lalo won him a $300 cash prize. Brendan is a senior at Central High School and is a member of the Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
