HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Henderson County Coroner confirmed one person is dead after a minivan was pulled from the Ohio River on Friday night. The victim’s identity has not been released.

Henderson police said the vehicle drove into the Ohio River near the Second Street Boat Ramp around 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Chief of the Henderson City-County Rescue Squad said teams used drones and rescue boats in the area. Divers were also searching the water.

Henderson City spokeswoman Donna Stinnett said dispatch received a call about the situation at 7:28 p.m. She told reporters on the scene Friday that officers saw a vehicle partially submerged about 50 feet from the shore of the boat ramp.

“They did not mention that they saw anyone or that they heard anyone calling for help or anything like that,” she said. “They saw a vehicle, is what I was told from the police spokesman.”

At this time, officials believe it was an accident. The investigation is still ongoing.
