Traveling city hall focuses on homelessness

News

Homelessness in Evansville was the topic at Wednesday night’s traveling city hall.

Non-profit Aurora presented the latest numbers it has for people struggling with homelessness in the city.
We’re told the numbers went down dramatically from 2016 to 2017.

The latest count won’t be released for several more months.

Officials with Aurora tell us housing is the number one thing to help bring the number down.

“Every city in the country doesn’t have enough affordable housing for those people at the lowest criteria. That’s what we’re really needing more permanent affordable housing, but beyond that more affordable housing for people who have the lowest income,” says Susan Steinkamp.

Aurora plans to release the newest count on Evansville homeless in June.
