HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – With Christmas less than two weeks away, holiday movies are in full swing.
This year Hallmark will feature 40 films in its “Countdown to Christmas” lineup.
The movies usually feature a small quaint town as its backdrop.
One tri-state city is hoping to be next in line.
Eyewitness News received an exclusive look as Henderson is hoping to attract Hallmark.
“People say that Henderson feels a lot like a Hallmark movie, a snow globe during Christmas time during the holiday season,” said Henderson Tourist Commission executive director Abby Dixon.
So Henderson Tourist Commission executive director Abby Dixon decided to listen to the community by creating Operation Hallmark.
“So we actually started working on this last Christmas, the footage on the video,” said Dixon.
Dixon created a movie trailer highlighting different areas of Henderson during the holidays.
Featuring Henderson native Megan Mortis, the video showcases Audubon Park, downtown, the riverfront and of course Santa.
Posted last month, the video has been viewed over 20,000 times and shared by hundreds of others.
A few weeks ago Dixon reached out to Hallmark.
“We were able to identify over a dozen producers that frequently work with Hallmark on their Christmas movies,” said Dixon. ” So they have all received packets of information of the tax incentive program. Some sample locations that would be perfect for shooting here.”
Dixon hopes Kentucky’s tax incentives and Henderson’s charm strikes a chord with Hallmark.
“The ripple effect too of having a Hallmark film shot here,” said Dixon. They are going to be here several weeks or months shooting the movie. They” are going to be staying in Henderson. They have to eat three meals a day.”
The Henderson Tourist Commission wants the public to share the video using the hashtag #OperationHallmark.
