Hancock County officials confirm members of the United Steel Workers Union voted down a new contract with Century Aluminum on Monday night, meaning a lockout goes into effect.

570 workers will be locked out of the Hawesville plant starting Tuesday. It was supposed to start Monday after employees overwhelmingly rejected the company’s offer last week.

59% of the membership voted against this latest contract.
