Evansville, Indiana (WEHT) – There’s new information on a murder suicide in Evansville. Eyewitness News has learned the names of the man and woman who died Friday evening. The incident happened at the Devonshire Apartments in the 800 block of Erie Drive, where police say they found a woman with a single gunshot wound to the head. The Vanderburgh County Coroner later identified her as Khloe Miller, 19. The Warrick County Coroner identified the shooter as 21 year old, Dakotah Clay. Police say Clay led officers on a chase that ended in the 10000 block of Heim Road where he turned the gun on himself. Autopsy results show Clay died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head.

Saturday those living at Devonshire are trying to get to back to a sense of normality. One man says Friday night he heard what sounded like a fire cracker. Moments later his apartment complex was swarming with police officers and emergency vehicles. He later learned, Khloe Miller, one of his neighbors had been shot and killed in an apparent act of domestic violence. The neighbor tells Eyewitness News the neighborhood is typically quiet and rarely sees serious crime.
Vanderburgh County Deputy Coroner confirms the woman who was shot died at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Based on the initial information, investigators believe the suspect and the victim had been in a relationship that had recently ended.

The names of the suspect and the victim are being withheld pending notification of family. The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office is handling the notifications and will release the names.
A gunshot rings out on Evansville’s east side followed by a cross county chase and a fatal ending. A woman is shot and the suspected gunman is allegedly dead by his own hand.

Police were called to the 800 block of Erie Dr. That’s just behind washington square mall. The chase ended in Warrick County in the 10000 block of Heim Rd.

Police say a woman was on the ground with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital. Her name and condition have not yet been released.

Police say neighbors gave the suspect’s vehicle description. Officers then found the suspect on Highway 41 near the old Whirlpool Plant.

When police tried to pull him over, he took off. Police say he stopped at a home on Heim Rd. west of Chandler, where he then shot himself.

We spoke with a neighbor who heard the initial gunshot. She tells us she stayed by the female victim’s side until the paramedic’s arrived.

“I saw she was still breathing,” said Carla Harris, “so I was there beside her just telling her not to move until they got here. The cops were here pretty quickly. A few minutes after that the ambulance was here, and they were taking her.”

Evansville Police say the suspect never shot at any officers.
