Vanderburgh County Jail gets money for expansion planning

The Vanderburgh County Jail got the money Wednesday night to go ahead with expansion planning.

The County Council approved $500,000 requested Tuesday night by commissioners.

The money will pay to hire American Structure-point to create a floor plan and a cost estimate of what it will take to increase the size of the over-populated jail.

Sheriff Dave Wedding says there are currently 800 inmates in the Vanderburgh County Jail with only 550 beds.

The first report from American Structure-point is expected in about 4 months.
