“It felt weird cause you just feel like you’re about to go flying forward,” said 10-year-old Taylor.
“It felt like I was on a roller coaster going down,” said 10-year-old Josie.
Every year, thousands of people are killed in car crashes. Buckling up could have prevented some.
Vanderburgh county has a high seat belt compliance rate according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“We’re actually doing a great job,” said Lt. Noah Robinson.
To keep it that way the Indiana Sheriff’s Association created the seat belt convincer
“The convincer simulates a ten mph crash while you’re seatbelted in while showing you what the impact feels like,” said Lt. Robinson.
This week you can find it at the Vanderburgh County Fair.
“Most surprising reaction most people have is how intense the jolt is. It’s not enough to injure you but it certainly will get your attention,” he said.
So we found a pair of brave ten year olds to test it out on camera. Although leaving them a little startled, the convincer did its job.
“Put your seatbelt on,” said Taylor.
