Walker Arraigned for Assault as Pastor Remains in Hospital

A Madisonville pastor is still in the hospital after he was shot in Muhlenberg County yesterday.

Kentucky State Police say Cornelius Walker shot Michael McCool. It happened Wednesday near Greenville.

More than a day after he was shot in Muhlenberg County, parishioners at Bible Way Church, where McCool is a pastor, and others who knew him, continue to pray for his recovery.

Kentucky State Police say McCool was shot once by Cornelius Walker with a pistol while collecting on a delinquent account Walker had with Aaron’s Rent-A-Center.  McCool’s still at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, where officials say he’s in serious condition. Michele Spivey works at a tobacco store next to the church. She called the shooting devastating for his family, and congregation.

“This world is getting to be crazy anyway, and for someone to do their job, and then get shot, it’s sad. It’s very sad,” she says.

Thomas and Rhonda Yates, assistant pastors with the church, describe McCool as a great man with a forgiving heart, and someone who was great in his faith.  State police charged Walker with first degree assault.

Walker was arraigned on the charge earlier today and he remains in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center.
