(CNN) – Walmart is ending its car seat recycling program early, saying the program was too successful.

The company offered a $30 gift card to anyone who brought in an old car seat, as part of an effort to keep plastic out of landfills.

The event collected a million car seats since it started last Monday.

The drive was supposed to last until next Monday.

Walmart said this collection is equal to diverting about $200 million plastic bottles from landfills.
