(WEHT)- Monday will mark the 8th anniversary of the Costa Concordia disaster that claimed 32 lives. The ship struck rocks off the Italian island of Giglio and turned on its side.
In total, the ship carried 3200 passengers and 1000 crew members. When the tragedy struck, chaos erupted as passengers fled to the lifeboats to escape the ship.
The ship’s captain, Francesco Schettino, was later found guilty of manslaughter and other charges related to the wreck and sentenced to 16 years behind bars.
