Irwin Family stepping up animal conservation efforts amid fires

(WEHT)- The family of Steve Irwin is helping rescue as many animals from the fires blazing through Australia. Authorities say nearly a third of the koalas in the Australian state of New South Wales have died as a result of the fires.

The Irwin family says an orphaned platypus was the 90,000th animal they have rescued through the Australia Zoo’s Wildlife Hospital, which is owned by the Irwins.
