DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT)- A special ceremony was held in Daviess County to honor a man for his service during World War II.

Dennis Newberry was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal this weekend in Owensboro. Newberry started with the Civil Air Patrol when he was 15 years old. He later served in the Army. He tells Eyewitness News he was surprised and humbled by the honor.

“I’m flattered. I really am. Like I said, I’m no hero. I didn’t do anything heroic. I am a little bit stunned that they did and I don’t know how they kept records.”

After Newberry was awarded in the military he worked for more than three decades at Texas Gas where he retired as President and CEO.
