INDIANA (WEHT) – Eyewitness News is keeping track of who is filing for what position within the the four counties of Warrick, Vanderburgh, Gibson and Posey.

VANDERBURGH COUNTY

Cheryl Musgrave – Filed January 4

Cheryl Musgrave is running for mayor of Evansville.

According to her campaign website, Musgrave’s leadership attracted a $40 million investment from AT&T to bring high-speed fiber internet access to unincorporated county residents. Musgrave says the Vanderburgh County Commissioners received the 2022 Outstanding Team Effort award from the Association of Indiana County Commissioners.

Her website states Musgrave and the Vanderburgh County Commissioners negotiated a new agreement with the FOP that will increase deputies’ pay by 33 percent over the next four years, after seeing Vanderburgh County sheriff’s deputies were once among the lowest paid law enforcement officers in the region.

Among her other accomplishments, she worked toward massive upgrades to Green River Road and Burdette Park, abandoned properties were finally maintained and sold, and got rid of barriers to getting paperwork for properties that had “red flags.”

She is with the Republican Party.

Caine Alexander Helmer – Filed January 9

Caine Alexander Helmer is running for mayor of Evansville.

Helmer has created an exploratory committee for Evansville mayor. Helmer says his three main platforms encompass mental health, affordable housing and education, with his secondary issues including improvements to the welfare system in the city and a desire to attempt to lower the cost of living in Evansville.

This is Helmer’s first time running for political office. Helmer works for an area retail store. He says he studied to become a nurse, but he was met with obstacles that shaped his platform for mayor.

He is with the Republican party.

Natalie Rascher – Filed January 9

Natalie Rascher filed for mayor.

She is with the Republican party.

Mary Allen – Filed January 9

Mary Allen filed for City Council.

She is with the Democrat party.

Paul Green – Filed January 10

Paul Green is running for City Council.

A social media post states he is with the Democrat party.

Jim Brinkmeyer is running for City Council, 6th ward.

Stephanie Terry – Announced her campaign January 27

Current Vanderburgh County Councilmember and Executive Director of the Children’s Museum of Evansville (cMoe) Stephanie Terry is running for mayor of Evansville.

Terry said, “I’ve spent my life in Evansville. This is where my heart is: my family, my friends, and my community. After much prayer and discussion with those closest to me, I’ve decided I can best serve Evansville as its mayor. Evansville deserves someone who sees the city’s potential and wants to serve its people. I will bring my reputation as a consensus builder as well as my experience in civic and community work to help make Evansville a city that meets the needs of all of our residents.”

A news release says Terry is committed to building upon the work that has been done to make Evansville a great place to live, raise a family and do business. Officials say Terry has a vision for moving Evansville forward while also tackling the basics such as safe neighborhoods, affordable housing, improved parks and roads.

Terry is with the Democrat party.

Ron Beane – Filed January 27

He’s running for City Council At-Large.

Republican party.

Jonathan Weaver – Announced January 30

Jonathan Weaver has announced he is filing for a 4th Evansville City Council term.

City Council Jonathan Weaver is planning to file with his family for his fourth term on Evansville City Council on January 31 at 3:30 p.m.

“The accomplishments over the past 12 years have been exciting and rewarding”, says Weaver. “I want to continue the work that needs to be done with the new Mayor of Evansville.”

A press release says Weaver came to Evansville in February 2000 to work for WEHT as a broadcast meteorologist. He earned his real estate license in 2003 and is currently helping people buy and sell homes in Indiana and Kentucky at FC Tucker Emge and Collier REALTORS.

He is with the Republican party, and is running for City Council At Large.

POSEY COUNTY

Election officials tell us all of the Mt. Vernon City Council and Clerk-Treasurer incumbents have now filed for a new term. There are also the two Mayoral filings.

Posey County will not be holding a Primary Election this year as there are not any contested races.

Steve Loehr – Filed January 4

Steve Loehr plans to run for mayor of Mt. Vernon.

Loehr is a lifelong resident of Posey County, married to his wife, Tammy who is retired. They have a son, Nicholas who is an attorney with the Indiana Department of Child Services.

Loehr is retired after 42 years with GE/SABIC where he lead several projects.

He maintains his lifelong involvement with the community in various capacities such as volunteering for Special Olympics, St Matthew Church, Habitat and two terms on the Board of Directors at WHCC. Steve has been coaching swimming for the last 25 years for the local Age Group program as well as the Head Coach/Aquatics Director at the High School.

He is with the Republican party.
