EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Eyewitness News took a trip down memory lane. Our sports department wrapped up our online tournament to determine the best boy’s high school basketball team over the last 20 years.
You chose, the 2015 Reitz Panthers, Michael Gilbert takes a look back at that incredible season.
The 2015 Reitz team treated the Tri-State with highlight plays on both sides of the court. Crushing their competition with their stingy trap defense while averaging 92 points a game.
“I’ve never been on a team, like that 2015 team, that was so committed to winning.”
The Panthers finished with an overall record 29-2. Out of those 31 games, Coach Adams’ team scored 100 points, 10 different times.
“We were very close on breaking on all-time state scoring record average for the season, so the style of play, the excitement, and so many guys could score. I think it was just a lot of fun to watch.”
Reitz would make it all the way to the state finals but lose in overtime to Homestead 91-90.
“I mean, I wish we could get that one back for sure, I think all of us wish we could have. But I definitely think we all used it as motivation (in life) and I wanted to win a championship and all of us did.
Even a couple of years later, the Panther still think about about the glory days playing for Reitz.
“I miss that team, I miss them a lot. Man, I wish we could put on that uniform together.”
