HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Bob Valvano & Mike Pratt, plus, The Kentuckiana Friends of V-Day, hosted a silent auction at Ellis Park to raise money for cancer research.

The two sports radio commentators did a 90 minute live broadcast at the track as well.

Valvano was brothers with Jim Valvano. Valvano was remembered for his famous ESPY speech “Don’t Ever Give Up.” He died two months after his speech. He had a nearly a year long battle with metastatic cancer.

Bob Valvano explains his brother would want him to continue the fight.

“What he would say is what are you doing talking on television, get out there and raise some more money we haven’t cured anything yet. That’s what he would say. He would also be very grateful for everyone’s who’s helped and he would love the fact that everyone is raising money in such a pleasant way. People are really enjoying themselves, he was guy who enjoyed himself. He would be humble and proud that we are raising money in the fight against cancer.”

Valvano & Pratt have plans of visiting Ellis Park again to host the same silent auction and live radio broadcast.
