HENDERSON, Ky. – (WEHT) Calvin Borel will return to Ellis Park this weekend to race in Sunday’s Ellis Park Derby with an interesting connection.
Borel’s 2010 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver is the sire of Super Steed, the same horse Borel will ride on Sunday.
“I’ve been working him, and actually he looks a lot like Super Saver. Super Saver was not a big horse, and this horse is not big, but he’s got a big heart. He’s got the personality of Super Saver, and he does everything right,” said Borel of Super Steed.
Calvin Borel has won the Kentucky Derby three-times, most recently in 2010 on Super Saver.
The Ellis Park Derby the the ninth race on Sunday and part of a busy weekend at Ellis park featuring the Making of a Racehorse workshop on Saturday morning. Sunday will also feature the annual Groupie Doll Stakes as well as a cancer benefit auction featuring radio personalities Bob Valvano and Mike Pratt.
