Central’s Kyle Stewart breaking records in long jump

Central’s Kyle Stewart has only been with the Bears for one season, but he’s already leaving his mark on the program.

Stewart is one of the best long jumpers in the state of Indiana, recently breaking the SIAC long jump record by jumping 23 feet, 7.25 inches. The record was previously held by Vincennes Lincoln’s Steve Cobb, set in 1971.

“Athletically he’s probably one of the best athletes at Central,” said Head Coach Kindell Wilson of Stewart. “His success is definitely a credit to his work ethic, one-hundred percent.”

Stewart said breaking the record was a dream come true and motivates him to keep pushing himself further.

“I couldn’t believe it,” said Stewart. “Just keep working hard, grinding to get better, and now I’m breaking records. It’s just unbelieveable.”

Central will begin Sectionals on Thursday, where Stewart says he hopes to begin his journey to the state finals. The Bears and Stewart won the City title for the first time this season.
