NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEHT) Chris Baker is the early leader at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing and Finance.
Baker set a course record in the opening round, firing a 63 (-9).
Joseph Bramlett is in 2nd place at -8.
Jessica Wimsatt: Well the first day of play officially wrapping up here at Victoria National and as expected golfers getting a taste of just how difficult this course can be. And to make things even trickier, they can thank this guy, Chris Baker, who shot a course record 63 today to lead the pack after round one.
Chris Baker: Yea it was awesome. You don’t just wake up and expect to do something like that but everything was good today. Hit it great and to be honest if it’s possible to be stress free, it was really stress free. Even coming down the stretch there those few finishing holes are among the most difficult you play all year so hit some great shots there all of those so very pleased with how today went.
Greg Yates: Yea that was pretty impressive, probably try to make a lot of birdies I guess. It’s a long week so kinda see how it goes but that was a really, really impressive round. It’s always tough, there’s just you can’t, even on a day like this with no wind and soft conditions, You can’t lose focus for a shot. Definitely gives me some confidence heading into the rest of the week, feel good about where it’s at.
Andrew Novak: It’s not easy to make a ton of birdies out here that’s tough and it’s hard to keep up because it’s gonna be hard to shoot 63, 64, i don’t know how Chris did that today but to make up shots on all the leaders. Just executed my game plan, and I was glad to make two good saves coming in to keep it that way. All confidence with the putter,
see them go in like that. Just kinda makes you feel like you can make anything.
Jessica Wimsatt: And heading into round two baker at nine-under. He of course the guy to beat, but as we’ve discovered time and time again, on this course pretty much anything can happen. From Victoria National Jessica Wimsatt Eyewitness News.
