Christ the Redeemer

Christ the Redeemer is the most iconic image in Rio de Janeiro.

Finished in 1931 and standing 98 feet tall on Mount Corcovado, it is one of those places you have to go to, but exactly how do you get to Christ the Redeemer?

The views from atop are timeless. Pictures don’t do it justice, but in order to get to the top, you must start at the bottom.

It starts with a 20 or 30 minute ride at about a 45 degree angle straight up the mountain. It’s open air, but don’t stick your head out too far because it is a tight squeeze.

Through the forest you see small villages, streams and then the views that instantly take your breath away. When the train stops, you’re not done.

A staircase awaits and about 200 steps remain to get up to Christ the Redeemer.

Then there’s the moment you first see the man with outstretched hands seemingly looking over all of Brazil.

You have made it to Christ the Redeemer.
