Colts trade 1st round pick for all-pro defensive tackle

Sports

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WEHT) The Colts have traded their 1st round pick to the 49’ers for Deforest Buckner. Buckner has agreed to a contract extension with the Colts worth $21 million a year. That makes him the 2nd highest-paid defensive tackle behind Aaron Donald.

Deforest Buckner was the 7th pick in the 2016 draft. In his first 4 years in the NFL, he’s racked up 28.5 sacks and looks to bolsters the Colts defensive line that allowed opposing teams quarterback to complete 70% of their passes over the past 2 seasons.

With the Colts trading away their 1st round pick it takes out their chances to draft a quarterback in the 1st round. They still could draft a quarterback in the later rounds but there are multiple reports that state they have interest in former Los Angeles Chargers Quarterback Phillip Rivers.
