EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) It wasn’t a thing of beauty for either team in their exhibition opener, but Evansville had just enough to beat USI in overtime.
The Aces knocked-off the Screaming Eagles 71-68.
Evansville shot just 32.8% from the field, while USI shot 42.9%.
The Aces placed 3 players in double-figures. Artur Labinowicz and K.J. Riley each had 14.
Emmanuel Little led USI with 20.
It was good early in the season you don’t get games like this so, one thing that it does, my team has to wake up. And say hey teams are coming after them and if you don’t play the right way, you’re not gonna be successful, so I thought it was a good lesson for us.
KJ Riley: Honestly we shouldn’t have won, they were the better team tonight. We fought through adversity tonight, that’s the good thing I took away from the game, we fought, but we had our backs against the wall, that’s a big step for us. Build on this and continue to get better.
Rodney Watson : I thought our guys battled throughout. I think that as the season goes along, especially this time of the year, it’s easy to slip into being more concerned about minutes on the court as opposed to production on the court. A game like this really eliminates any fools gold but a lot of positives.
Emmanuel Little: We can most definitely battle, we played a good D1 team, I don’t think we will see another team like that with that type of length and athleticism so it was good to play that team. It’s a stepping stone for what’s gonna happen during our season.
