EVANSVILLE, Ind. – (WEHT) With the new basketball seasons right around the corner, excitement is swirling around USI this Fall.
Rodney Watson’s team is coming off one of the best season’s in USI history after a run to the Final Four. Watson says his group is excited to build off that momentum, and says his team is ready to get back to that level.
“They understand that they really liked that Final Four run, and we want more. That was an incomplete run for us, and they have a really good sense of what needs to happen to in order to get back to that place,” said Watson.
The Screaming Eagles will have a tall task replacing guys like the all-time leading scorer Alex Stein among others, but Watson and the team say they’re excited to get started and see what they can do.
On the women’s side, Rick Stein’s bunch features a squad that is filled with new faces. USI says the new-look team is already finding their identity and ready for an exciting season.
“We’re different, a new bunch with a lot of new faces, but we’re excited about the possibilities. We can’t wait to see what this team can do and where we can go,” said women’s head coach Rick Stein.
Both teams enter the 2019-2020 season with high expectations, starting with bids to the NCAA Tournament.
The men’s squad will kick off the season on October 28th with an exhibition against the Purple Aces. The USI women’s team will open play with an exhibition at UK on October 30th.
